Sicilian food is known all over the world. If you walk on sicilian streets you can see many foreign tourists tasting it in all the rests stop, bars, restaurants.

Talking about sicilian food means take account of the various kinds of food depending of the area considered. In fact, for example, what you find in Catania doesn’t exist in Palermo, or the same food undergo different treatments. Arancino, for example, in Catania is made with ragout or other types of sauces, while in Palermo is made with ricotta cheese.

Every city or villages has its speciality, createing a notable difference between different the parts of the island.

Pasta alla norma, a Catania speciality, it consists in pasta with aubergine and salty ricotta cheese.

Cannoli, the most famous pastries all over the world. You can eat them with various tastes: with ricotta cheese, chocolate, pistachio, cream. You can find them in every part of the Sicily.

Pistachio.
Bronte is the most famous pistachio place cultivation. This a speciality you can find in the north zone of Catania province. You can eat it with pastries such as cannoli or pistachio cake, but don’t lose to taste pasta whit pistachio and cream.

“Panzerotti” are particular pastries of biscuit stuffed with cream or chocolate. You can have breakfast with them in Catania bars.

Ricotta cheese is a characteristic thing of all the region. It possible to taste it with pastries and with pasta.

Cassata, famous all over the world for its ricotta cheese taste.

Granita, that we can define the cousin of ice cream, is a speciality of east Sicily. You can taste almond granita (called “Minnulata”) with croissant, in Catania or Acireale bars, but many other tastes worth a taste. Together with granita you must taste sicilian gelato, especially in places as Nicolosi or Acitrezza.

Sausage
You can taste the Linguaglossa sausage: many people from all part of Catania province come here every sunday morning to buy it. But the Catania sausage is famous too, and you can buy it in the folklorisitc Catania fish-market.

Modica chocolate
Its particularity is that it comes from an aztech recipe imported by Spanish in the XVII century.

Chocolate is with vanilla, peperoncino, cannella, lemon, orange, without any use of burrocacao. It is good to taste joined with almond wine. Link Modica
