History
Modica was the scene of dramatic event: on the 15th August 1474 360 jewishes were killed.
This is the first sign of intolerance anit-Semite that brought about the edict of 1492 that ordered the expulsion of jewishes from spanish territory, included Modica.
Chocolate
Famous for its chocolate, Modica holds the ancient Aztec recipe brought here during spanish dominance in the XVII century.
It consists in a low temperature processing, so that cocoa taste isn’t missed or altered. In this dark chocolate cocoa isn’t blended with sugar, and it has a unique characteristic of not to liquefy on your hand with hot summer temperatures. Unlike the classic chocolate, Modica chocolate is made without any use of burrocacao.
Often spices are joined to gave it a particular taste: orange, chili pepper, vanilla and many others.
It is good to taste it with almond wine.
Relax
It is possible bike along Modica seafront (Marina di Modica), one of the most beautiful places of south Sicily.
